Important Dates and Actions for Submitters

JUNEAU — The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) will launch its new Real Estate Transfer Return system on January 12, 2026. To prepare for this upgrade, the current system will be taken offline on Thursday, January 8, 2026, to migrate the most recent 90 days of returns.

The Register of Deeds Office urges all submitters to review the following important information and take necessary actions to avoid delays:

Returns Older Than November 10, 2025

  • Returns dated prior to November 10, 2025 will not migrate to the new system. Submitters must complete a new return in the upgraded system once it goes live.

Document Recording Before January 8

  • Any documents requiring recording should be filed prior to January 8 to ensure they are processed without interruption.

Closings Scheduled Between January 8–11

  • Submitters with upcoming closings during this period should create and print transfer returns before January 8, as the DOR website will be unavailable.

Recording Returns from the Old System

  • The Register of Deeds Office will continue to accept documents prepared in the old system through approximately January 15, 2026.

“We appreciate your attention to these important system changes,” said Denise Lepple, Register of Deeds. “Planning ahead will help prevent delays and ensure a smooth transition to the new system. Please contact our office with any questions.”
