Dodge County 2018 Tax Foreclosure
Tax Foreclosure on Unpaid 2014 Real Estate Taxes Starts in 60 Days
Juneau, WI – July 5, 2017 – Dodge County Treasurer, Patti Hilker urges taxpayers with unpaid 2014 taxes to get them paid before they face tax foreclosure. “The start of the foreclosure procedure is about 60 days away, on September 1, 2017. After that date, real estate parcels with unpaid 2014 taxes will begin to accrue additional charges for title searches and publication fees”. Hilker further explains that “Ultimately, early next spring, the county will take property which has unpaid 2014 taxes.”
The “In rem” tax foreclosure process is triggered when there are outstanding unpaid real estate taxes, special assessments, special charges or special taxes remaining on Dodge County’s “Sale Date” (the first working day in September) of the year taxes are due. At that time, the Dodge County Treasurer issues a tax certificate to Dodge County for the property as provided in WI Stat § 74.57 (2012 through Act 45). This means if a property owner fails to pay outstanding charges as outlined above, ownership of the property could eventually transfer to the county.
The best thing taxpayers can do to avoid tax foreclosure is pay real estate taxes on time. Postponed 2nd installment real estate payments are due by July 31, 2017. Hilker strongly suggests mailing payments to Dodge County as soon as possible to insure your timely payment. The US Postal Service recommends mailing 1st Class mail at least 7 days prior to the due date to ensure on-time delivery.
