Safety is important for everyone, but the need for comprehensive safety planning is particularly for a person with dementia as the disease progresses. Taking measures to improve safety can prevent injuries and help a person with dementia feel more relaxed, less overwhelmed and maintain his or her independence longer. Areas to be reviewed include safety related to the home environment, driving, firearms, agitation and wandering.
